The Tale Behind Tales
Tales began with two Maltipoos named Bear and Maddie, and a camera roll filled with thousands of photographs that somehow still didn’t tell their story. The pictures captured the moments, but not always what made them matter including the day each of them came home or the phase that started one day and has persisted when Bear wanted to play with our neighbor's dog, Murphy, every minute of every day; the rituals, quirks and ordinary days that slowly became part of the fabric of our lives.
Our pets live their entire lives within a chapter of our own. It is one of the great privileges of loving them and one of its tender realities. The years pass quickly, and the smallest details are often the first to disappear.
We created Tales because we believe those details are worth preserving. Not simply as photographs, dates or data, but as a life remembered in context; a story told the way you would actually tell it. And we believe every story deserves a beginning.
That belief extends beyond the families who use Tales. We work alongside animal shelters, rescue organizations and a select group of responsible breeders who share our commitment to animal welfare, thoughtful placement and the lifelong well-being of every pet.
Through Tales, these partners can begin preserving a pet’s story before they ever arrive home by capturing early photographs, milestones and history that a new family might otherwise never know, and then ultimately pass that story forward when a pet is adopted or joins their family.
We are intentional about the organizations and breeders with whom we partner. Breeder participation is limited to those whose practices align with Tales’ standards for responsible breeding, health, transparency, and care. Tales is not intended to be a marketplace for pets. Rather, our role is to preserve the beginning of a life story and create a meaningful connection between the people who cared for a pet first and the family who will love them next. For shelters and rescue organizations doing the difficult and hopeful work of finding animals their homes, Tales also provides thoughtfully designed tools to help tell each animal’s story, connect them with prospective families and carry their history forward after adoption. At its heart, Tales is about something very simple: remembering a life while you are still living it.
Tales was created in Tampa, Florida by a small team of pet owners with a shared belief that a pet’s life deserves to be remembered beautifully and with the continued supervision of two very opinionated founding dogs.
